About Us

Founded by New Orleans native, and former tenured Tulane University Engineering professor, Dr. Calvin Mackie, STEM NOLA, a 501c3 organization, is committed to exposing, inspiring and engaging members of the community into the world of STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

We design and deliver learning opportunities, activities, programs & events to all STEM stakeholders, with an emphasis on under-served communities, across the city. STEM NOLA participants will be inspired. They will be motivated. They will benefit from the necessary training groundwork in an effort to adopt 21st Century skills of Communication, Collaboration and Critical Thinking.

STEM NOLA realizes that effective community-based STEM program must be inclusive yet focused enough to reach the people where they are, on their level, in order to take them to where they need to be to compete and succeed in life.

Since 2013

The greatest strength of the STEM NOLA program is that it is developed to be culturally, and environmentally relevant by using project-based activities, and hands-on designed learning to Expose, Inspire, and Engage students in grades K-12. By using college students, specializing in STEM-Based studies, and corporate volunteers as instructors and mentors, grades K-12 students are afforded the opportunity to see themselves in their STEM-based participants.

Our Strength

Our program is both culturally and environmentally relevant! STEM NOLA specializes in designing and teaching project-based activities and providing hands-on learning to Expose, Inspire and Engage students in grades K – 12. Our STEM NOLA instructors and mentors include STEM college students and corporate volunteers. With hands-on assistance and care, students are afforded the opportunity to see themselves in their instructors, with the possibility of following in their mentors’ STEM career footsteps.

Our Mission & Vision

To grow, engage, expose and inspire future Innovators, Creators, Makers and Entrepreneurs.

Members of the community will learn about opportunities in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
